MENIAL MONKEY PRESENTS... HALLOWEEN SPECIAL...REPORT!

Halloween is coming!
Spooky goings on at the oakford

Reading about Reading!

The Oakford in Reading played host to our latest party on wed 31st october and was a classic night for us. A great crowd including many of Readings finest acts & bands (dan le sac, christopher d ashley, my luminaires, the defeat and more) piled in to see three great sets of acoustic and electronic greatness.

Local Talent!

First on the pumkpin adorned stage was the Kay Chapman whose stunning voice gained her a reception usually reserved for headliners. Accompanying Kaye was guitarist Quinn who pulled out all the stops for halloween and even wore an impressive werewolf mask for one song...a man after the MMonkeys hearts! See her myspace page for a taster.

Jonny's Everywhere

Next up was Jonny Alford who, despite having to glue his guitar together a few hours before the gig, played a fantastic stripped down solo set. Last at the Oakford to support Polly Paulisma, Jonny ended his set with a cover of 'Maybe Tomorrow' from The Littlest Hobo and set things up nicely for our much anticipated headliner.

For more info on Jonny, click on the artist pages above, or visit his myspace page here

Yuill be sorry you missed him !

Found through myspace but clearly destined for a much bigger profile, James Yuill took to he stage with a guitar strapped to his back and a laptop to his side. His combination of gorgeous acoustic singer songwriting and full-on Ed Banger influenced electro worked incredibly and blew away all comers. James' songs started as simple melodies and ended as a wall of filtered electronics and hypnotic bleeps as he took tracks from his album 'Turning Down Water For Air' to a new level. Particularly effextive was his closing medley of 'Sweet Love' and 'No Suprise' with a frenzied reprise of the first track bringing our live music to a spectacular end.

Have a look at his myspace page and you’ll see why this one can’t be missed.

Great Carving

Thank you

Menial Monkey thanks everyone who made night so damn memorable...special mention goes to Mouks and Kay Chapman for their impressive pumpkin carving, the Oakford staff for their impressive outfits, Jon for the sound, James R for the photos and all the fine artists involved. Our next Oakford party will be an xmas special on 12th December and despite some serious bar raising for the halloween party, we're sure its going to be a blinder.
